Richard Childress Racing and Dale Earnhardt earned six NASCAR Winston Cup championships together in a nine-season span from 1986 through 1994. In two of the three seasons they didn't win the championship, they finished second (1989 - 12 points behind Rusty Wallace) and third (1988) in the point standings. The team earned 39 victories during those championship seasons, including 11 in 1987, the first full season they worked out of the race shop in Welcome, N.C. The 1986-87 championships were won with Wrangler as the primary sponsor and the other four were with GM Goodwrench sponsorship and the famous black paint schemes.
